ps - i never liked mansell but then i never like schumacher either - i like eccentrics and passion, even if they are not such champions, there is more at stake somehow, except for Senna and Prost who were almost like old skool fighter pilots and rivals. they were great.
as a child, i suppose i was a james hunt fan like most brits my age:)
well, i had no chance of seeing or knowing of Hunt in his era: in the 70s and 80s soviet official media (and we had no unofficial one then) claimed formula 1 as wild example of capitalists 'chase of profit' with constant human sacrifices, and there was practically no information... so, i became acquainted with the sport only in early 90s - last years of Senna-Prost rivalry. and as i disliked both, i prefered 'the third force' - crazy Nigel at first, Damon later.
well, of course to be denied access to the 'chase of profit' game... such a view seems distorted - and yet, there is some truth; futurism, fascism, fatality, ferrari and formula one. All the 'Fs' have danced down the years together. Which at least makes for interesting history!:))
